Producing Pure, Fresh Water for Offshore Applications: Aqua-chem vapor compression distillation systems kill bacteria and remove suspended solids, dissolved minerals, and organic contaminants from feedwater. From the North Sea to the Middle East, from the Far East to the Indian Ocean, we offer the industry's leading solutions for converting seawater, brackish and polluted water into pure, fresh water. For offshore platforms and drilling rigs, as well as commercial and military ships, Aqua-Chem's seawater desalting evaporators produce high-purity water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing, for boilers, industrial process applications and other uses. Our systems use vapor compression, single- or multiple-stage flash, and reverse osmosis technologies to produce fresh water. With standardized designs refined from hundreds of installations worldwide, our vapor compression units are available in standard capacities of 200, 300, 400, 600 and 700 gph. Our plate flash evaporators require no pretreatment and produce virtually no scaling. And our waste heat option assures reliable performance using the exhaust heat from single or multiple diesel engines as the primary heat source, resulting in greater efficiency and lower operating costs. Our vapor compression seawater distilling units feature standardized designs based on and refined from hundreds of installations worldwide. We also offer custom engineering to meet regional electrical codes, rig specifications and operating conditions. In the early 1960s, Aqua-Chem was the first to apply our Spray-Film® technology to vapor compression distillation. The combined technologies minimized scaling and enhanced heat transfer coefficients. The horizontal Spray-Film® evaporator later became the design upon which most of today's vapor compression distillers are based. The vapor compressor is the heart of a vapor compression unit. Our unique compressors with journal bearing design provides unmatched reliability in the industry. All evaporator tube surfaces remain adequately wet during evaporation so the operator can observe the process and quickly clean or passivate the unit without flooding the evaporator vessel. All units operate automatically, with starting, stopping and restarting based on tank signals. Operators regulate the system via HMI panelview displays interfaced with the system's PLCs. Designed, Engineered and Durable
Aqua-chem vapor compression units for offshore applications are built for long-term reliability and trouble-free performance with minimal maintenance, thanks to the following shared characteristics.
Waste Heat Plate Type Aqua-chem provides plate type and flash type evaporators for ships and drilling rigs and platforms to produce high purity drinking water utilizing waste heat from diesel engine jacket cooling water as the primary heat source for reduced energy costs or waste heat steam. Designed for low maintenance, extended shell life, improved thermal efficiency and control system reliability, Water Technologies' units offer significant operating advantages over other alternatives.
Reverse osmosis is a simple yet highly versatile water purification process that can handle seawater, brackish water or even contaminated fresh water. Typical applications include production of bottled water or potable water for people on the move such as those in temporary mining and construction camps, and military troops at sea and in the field. RO can also reduce any anticipated levels of nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) contamination to safe levels with our optional NBC system. Reverse Osmosis Aqua-Chem has designed and built reverse osmosis water purifiers for shipboard military applications for over Putting this same technology to work for civilian needs, Aqua-Chem reverse osmosis systems are used by island resorts and aboard private pleasure boats. And for land-based operations, Aqua-Chem makes ROWPUs (Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Units) offering high mobility for easy transport via truck, rail or air. Designed for fast set up in the field and easy operation with minimal operator attention, they are ideal for the military, temporary mining and construction camps, and for civilian disaster relief. A Simple Process - How Reverse Osmosis Works The resulting fresh water is accumulated in storage tanks while the concentrated (high TDS) brine is discharged. RO membranes provide an effective barrier to microorganisms, reducing the importance of water chlorination.
